I am considering getting the Aurora R6, however I am torn between which one to go with. I will mainly be using the computer for web browsing, videos, games such as GTA V, H1Z1, and some others. I have a couple options below and would like your opinion on which one to go with. The main differences are the power supply (460w vs 850w), as well as the 7700 vs 7700k processor.
My understanding is that the K processor is just unlocked to allow for overclocking. However I am not sure that I would ever need this? I have this Aurora R6 in order, hopefully to be received in a couple of weeks. Heres what I ended up going with, total cost of $1,643.84 including tax.
I didn't go with the K processor but I don't think I'll have any problems, I don't do any super heavy gaming. Alienware Aurora R6 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7700 Processor (4-Cores, 8MB Cache, Turbo Boost 2.0, up to 4.2GHz) Windows 10 Home 64bit English Alienware™ 460 Watt Multi-GPU Approved Power Supply with High Peformance Liquid Cooling NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5 16GB DDR4 at 2400MHz; up to 64GB (additional memory sold separately) 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage) Intel® 3165 1x1 802.11ac Wi-Fi Wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.2 Intel Wireless 3165 Driver. I agree; this is an Alienware discussion.
'Many' folks; whether they can build one themself or not enjoy the peace of mind knowing that they can call a single 1-800 number for all issues and not have to contact a laundry list of hardware suppliers. Add to this; I agree that most folks can build them however, far fewer can diagnos issues and how one component can and does affect another. I am supportive of the Aurora decision and like the product even though for many years I built my own and systems others.
